The Importance of Capsule(ing)

A blog post from exactly one year ago to the day popped up and it reminded me of something incredibly important: when you have a classic capsule wardrobe, it won't be going out of style. Capsuleing (if that's not a verb it is now) will save money, will take away the need for constant updates and will help you dress with ease every morning. I was reminded of this purely because the image I had included in last year's post is full of things I would recommend again this year.

Last year's image:

The only thing I would change is the colour because I am now totally obsessed with brown, but that is just personal taste.

I know patterns and seasonal colours are exciting (que a wave of burgundy) but when you have the basics down it really does make all the difference. If you're looking to build a capsule wardrobe this is my advice:

  1. Start slowly; you don't have to buy everything at once. This helps you absolutely fall in love with the pieces you're purchasing.

  2. Invest; don't buy cheap because it won't last, it won't look as good and it definitely won't feel as good.

  3. Tones matter; keep an eye on what backs the material you're choosing to make sure everything goes together tonally.

  4. Focus; don't get distracted by fun patterns and colours, that might come later.
